Bionomics of Codling Moth

Key for the Identification of Larvae of Codling Moth

General Characteristics: Interior fruit feeder, length 14 – 18 mm; head color brownish yellow; head width 1.62; dark speckling on the thoracic shield (Fig.1); anal comb lacking (Fig 2). 
 

Head: Hypognathus (Fig. 1).; adfrontal reaching or nearly reaching epicranial notch; epicranial suture usually short; six stemmatae, usually unevenly distributted with 6 always close to 4 than 5 (Fig. 1). 
 

Thorax: With distal medial sulus; T1 with trisetose L group (Fig. 1); T2 and T3 with SV group bisetose (Fig. 1); L1 closer to L2 than L3 (Fig. 1). 
 

Abdomen: L group setae adjacent to each other and obliquely placed (Fig. 3 & Fig. 4); A3 with L1 and L2 closer to each other than either is to spiracles; spiracles broadly elliptical, with eight pair usually some what larger and more dorsad; prolegs on A3-6 and A10, uniordinal crochets in complete circle on A3-6 prolegs (Figure); A10 prolegs with crochets in continuous row (Fig. 4); Anal Comb lacking (Fig 2).
