The IR-4 Project
The Interregional Research Project No. 4 (IR-4) is a federally funded program designed to increase pest control options for growers of specialty or minor crops. Field and laboratory work is conducted to obtain registrations for agrichemicals and biological agents used for crop protection. I take an active role in helping to define and relaying the pest management needs of Oregon commodity groups to coordinators of the IR-4 Project. I am Assistant Coordinator of the IR-4 Field Research Center, located at OSU’s North Willamette Research and Extension Center, where I and my colleagues conduct field trials that provide data to EPA for the establishment of tolerances (maximum residue levels) which eventually leads to the registration of pest management tools for growers.
