Beet-
A pest management simulation for sugar beet crop: From Centre for
Computer-based Learning (CBL) in Land Use and Environmental ciences (CLUES),
University of Aberdeen. BEET uses sugar beet
as a case study; most of the topics will be familiar to farmers of other
crops. Beet is a pest management game, in which players manage a
farm of 120 Ha. The players only concern is managing a beet crop on 40
Ha; cereal crops are managed automatically. The simulation runs for 15
years. The players can be assessed by the degree of profit and their use
of hazardous substances. The game is best played in a group with
teams of students competing with each other. Evaluation has shown that
the game is popular with students, and is a useful learning tool
that can provide experience f management decisions.
