Current and Future Initiatives in

IPM in Schools



The Program is developing an outreach and training program to promote the implementation of IPM in schools as outlined in the goals below.

Goals for 2009

  • Begin working with one or two school districts to develop and implement a pilot project in one or two schools with the assistance of fellow Western Region School IPM Implementation and Assessment Work Group members.
  • Begin collecting baseline pest management data for all of Oregon’s 197 school districts.
  • Begin developing model IPM implementation plans required in Sections 2 and 3 of Senate Bill 637.

Goals for 2010

  • Bring together a coalition and/or working group of interested and affected parties to layout a plan for improving pest management in schools.
  • Continue working with fellow Western Region School IPM Implementation and Assessment Work Group members to share skills and improve pest management in all schools in the Western Region.
  • Finish collecting baseline pest management data for all of Oregon’s 197 school districts.
  • Continue developing model IPM implementation plans as required by Senate Bill 637.
  • Begin expanding activities to include other pilot schools and training for all school IPM coordinators as outlined in Section 4 of Senate Bill 637.
